Juan Jose Pizano and Laydeker Chivas Remembered After Two-Truck Crash on County Road 302 in Reeves County, Texas
Juan Jose Pizano, 48, of Joshua, and Laydeker Chivas, 42, of Odessa, died following a head-on crash around 2 a.m. Friday on County Road 302 in Reeves County, Texas.
Pizano was driving west in a Freightliner tractor-truck pulling a trailer when the vehicle crossed the center line within a marked no-passing zone, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Chivas was traveling east in another Freightliner with a trailer when the trucks collided in the eastbound lane.
The impact ejected both drivers from their cabs, and investigators reported that neither appeared to have been wearing a seat belt.
Authorities pronounced Pizano and Chivas dead at the scene after both sustained fatal injuries.
Investigators have not determined why the westbound truck left its lane, and the inquiry remains open.
The loss of both drivers brings sorrow to their families, friends, and the communities of Joshua and Odessa.
